Renate moved from her native Belgium to Taranaki in 1995 . 4 years later she was introduced to stone sculpture by Filipe Tohi and never looked back.
20 years later, her passion of sculpture is stronger than ever and her artistic career includes over 50 sculpture symposia worldwide and numerous group and solo exhibitions.
Renate's studio work consists mainly of voluptuous female form with a fun, personal narrative. Her monumental works, created during international symposia, are usually abstract and stand out in their simple elegance.
The constant element in the body of work is sensuality and feel-good-factor.
Renate is part of the organising team of the biennale Te Kupenga Stone Sculpture Symposium in New Plymouth and is a member of ISSA ( International Sculpture Symposium Alliance). Her latest venture as an organizer was the first sculpture symposium Van Steen tot Beeld in Waregem, Belgium.
