Colour, colour, colour everywhere.
Kris has her studio on the Main Road towards Oakura village, head west along the coast, 5 minutes from the edge of New Plymouth. Her studio is surrounded by the sea to the north and to the south Mount Taranaki. With views to die for you can see where she gets her inspiration from. As you enter her studio you will get a blast of colour. Lots of colour !!!
Working mainly in acrylic paint, the odd painting has tissue & jacquard linen. What makes her work stand out is the heavy black lines to enhance her work. A bit of abstract, large painted faces and objects from everyday life feature in her work. With no training what so ever in art she gets her ideas from the internet and her surroundings. Kris is a Young Visionary tutor at the Len Lye Centre in New Plymouth. She loves teaching young children to participate in creating and appreciating our world of art. Her work is very well known and graces the walls in Australia, America, Austria, Amsterdam, England, Scotland, Canada and of course New Zealand.
Kris and her partner Greg have their earth moving and demolition business which Kris is heavily involved, either on a shovel, commonly known as a dogs body or in the office doing paperwork. Her painting is her stress relief when she gets time to hide in her studio. Her children Jakob, plumber, Portia, studying Fine Arts at Massey University in Wellington and Rhiarn, student at New Plymouth Girls High School are becoming more and more independent so time to paint is getting easier.
She has been involved in the Taranaki and Oakura Arts Trails for many years. She invites people to her studio on these weekends. You get to see her in action in her messy, creative corner. Outside these weekends she is open by appointment.
